Did you know the secret to successful dog training lies in using the right rewards? The key is choosing treats that are both meaty and irresistible to capture your dog’s attention and keep them motivated.
Carnilove teamed up with dog training expert Becki Gude, of Surrey Canine Corner, to explore how dog training treats can transform training. In their latest film, Becki demonstrates the power of quality treats and explains why they lead to better results.
Why Treats Are Essential for Dog Training
Positive reinforcement is the cornerstone of effective dog training. Treats act as a reward for good behaviour, creating a clear association between the desired action and a positive outcome. Meaty and flavorful treats are especially effective because they are high-value rewards your dog can’t resist.
Choosing the Best Dog Training Treats
Not all treats are created equal. The best training treats are:
Highly Palatable: Dogs respond better to treats that are meaty and irresistible.
Small and Easy to Handle: Bite-sized treats ensure quick rewards during training sessions
Healthy Choices: Opt for treats that are free from artificial additives and fillers.
Carnilove offers a range of natural treats that meet these criteria, making them perfect for training sessions.
How to Use Dog Training Treats for Maximum Results
Becki Gude recommends the following tips when using dog training treats:
Timing Is Key: Reward your dog immediately after they perform the desired behaviour to reinforce the connection.
Use High-Value Treats: Save the most enticing treats for training challenging commands or behaviours.
Keep Sessions Short: Avoid overwhelming your dog by keeping training sessions brief and engaging.
Training requires both mental focus and physical energy, which is why proper nutrition is crucial. Carnilove provides high quality food and treats that offer a complete meal for your dog or cat. All ranges are grain and potato free, and contain a high meat content complemented with forest fruits, vegetables and herbs.
Carnilove treats not only enhance your training sessions but also help to support your dog’s overall well-being too.
Transform your training routine by incorporating high-value treats into your strategy. With the right rewards, patience, and consistency, you’ll unlock your dog’s full potential and strengthen the bond you share.

Six lucky handlers won the opportunity to train their up-and-coming young gundog puppies with Laura Hill of Stauntonvale Gundogs in Leicestershire. After some introductions and discussion about each of the dogs’ capabilities, the handlers went out into the paddock where Laura guided them through some of the foundation obedience skills with each dog in turn. With plenty of natural distractions in the new environment, Laura was able to demonstrate how Carnilove treats could be used effectively to engage and reward the young puppies for their heelwork, recalls, and stays.
Gundog Training: Building a Strong Foundation
Laura took the group through the basics of dealing with marked retrieves, before moving on to more advanced work where the handlers were able to build up towards doing blind retrieves. The dogs enjoyed being out for the morning, and then the handlers returned to have a brief Q&A session with Laura over lunch and discuss the homework they had been given.
Importance of Nutrition in Gundog Puppy Training
Alongside their place on the workshop, the six winners also received a Carnilove nutrition consultation with our expert nutritionist, a 12kg Carnilove bag of kibble and a treat goody box filled with delicious dog treats for their lovely dogs to enjoy while they learn. Teaching dogs’ foundation obedience skills and feeding them a grain and potato free diet rich in meat will help to prepare them for a healthy, safe, and successful future.
We’ll be giving away a pack of Carnilove treats to everyone who sends us a worthy picture or video of their pet playing outside in a ‘Spring Setting’. Just tag us @carnilove_uk in your photos on Facebook or Instagram. You can have as many entries as you like – Happy snapping! 📸 🐕

Congratulations and best of luck to Carnilove Ambassador, Red Labrador, Brae and his owner trainer Laura Hill on becoming Field Trial Champions.
Exceeding expectations and despite treacherous weather on a moor in Northumberland, Brae won two two-day open stakes in October. Achieving Field Trial Champion at two years old is quite a feat and it means he has qualified for the 2023 Championship in Scotland.
Brae has been fed Carnilove True Fresh since he was a pup and is clearly thriving on the quality grain-free kibble made from fresh meat. The Championship takes place from 27th to 29th November at Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries & Galloway. We wish them both the very best of luck and will be crossing our paws for more success.
